01

Collect what you control

Download bank statements, bookkeeping exports, invoices, payroll information, VAT returns, prior accounts and correspondence while you still have access.

02

Identify work already completed

Ask for the latest trial balance, working papers, draft accounts, tax computation and a list of unresolved queries. Even partial work can clarify the position.

03

Expect professional handover steps

A new accountant may need professional clearance, authority and identity checks. Contacting them early creates more room for these steps.

04

Give the new accountant one clear summary

State the entity, period, deadline, work required, record format and any known problem. Attach the available information in an organised way.
