The week in 60 seconds

The Bank of England’s current Bank Rate remains 3.75%. The ONS published its latest Business Insights and Conditions Survey dataset on 24 September. Companies House identity verification remains an immediate company-administration priority, while the next Bank of England Financial Policy Committee record is due on 30 September.

02

Borrowing costs remain part of every decision

The Bank of England published its September Monetary Policy Summary on 17 September and lists the current Bank Rate as 3.75%. For businesses, the practical issue is not the headline alone: review the rates actually applying to overdrafts, cards, asset finance and variable-rate borrowing before committing cash.

03

Business conditions need a company-level reading

The ONS released its latest Business Insights and Conditions Survey dataset on 24 September, covering areas such as financial performance, workforce, prices, trade and resilience. National indicators are useful context, but owner-managers should compare them with their own order book, debtor days, gross margin and cash runway.

04

Companies House verification cannot remain a background task

Identity verification has been a legal requirement since 18 November 2025, with a transition timetable for existing directors and people with significant control. Businesses should check each affected person, locate personal codes securely and confirm company-specific due dates before the next filing becomes urgent.

05

The useful dates and decisions for the coming period are clear.

  • The Bank of England Financial Policy Committee record due 30 September
  • The next ONS Business Insights and Conditions Survey release expected 8 October
  • The next Monetary Policy Committee decision due 5 November
